Unfortunately you need to try the warranty route first. If there is no one to do the warranty work in your area Menards may take it back at that point.

If you are able to return it purchase a name brand appliance with a service and parts network to back it up. You are fortunate to have an early failure as service and parts may be hard to get for a store brand product as many people have posted about.

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. Finally got a full refund and bought USA made washer and dryer pair. The worst part was trying to find a representative that could speak English and the time (2 weeks) to resolve a simple warranty issue

Original review Feb 29, 2024
I purchased a new Criterion 4.5 cu ft washer in Sept 2023. This week (Feb 2024) it quit working.

Called the warranty line, and it has been a disaster ever since. After 3 days, I finally got to the point, a repairman is going to call next week to schedule a repair visit. Each call was more frustrating than the last, very difficult to impossible to understand the service reps. Every time I submitted information more was requested, including photos of error codes serial numbers, detailed descriptions of the failure, and the list foes on!

To top it all off, the repair company assigned has many BBB complaints and one-star rating. This machine was purchased from Menard's, all they can say is call the warranty number!

Just beware of this brand and to a lesser extent Menard's. I thought the price was good, and the machine looked good, in reality I would have paid double for a reputable manufacturer and business to deal with.

First of all, act quickly. Start by reading your warranty.

It usually offers repair. Call the number on the warranty. If they can't repair it contact Menards and let them know it can't be repaired and ask if you can return it.

If you can return it use the credit they give you to purchase a name brand refrigerator that will have a parts and service network to repair it even after your warranty ends. Far too many people learn their refrigerator is an expensive boat anchor once the warranty ends.

If I could leave zero stars I would. Washer did not clean well heavy loads easily put the machine out of balance. Pulley inside machine broke in less than 30 days. Dryer took 2 to 3 cycles to get clothes dried. Returned both to store. Water bill increased by $20 for the 3 weeks the washer was used.

Go out and buy a new refrigerator. The warranty is one year and long over by now.

You should have contacted the manufacturer when you first encountered the problem.

It isn't their fault you didn't request service in a timely manner. You can still contact the manufacturer to see if there is anyone willing to work on your refrigerator at your expense but you look at other posts on this site you will find that it may be hard to find parts or service for this brand.

Freezer problem

Criterion Appliances - Freezer problem
We have had nothing but problems with this freezer since we purchased it. Loud buzzing noise like it needed leveled. Now we almost lost a whole freezer full of meat cuz the compressor kept kicking on and off while we were at work which could've been a horrible outcome. I've tried to email and call the number I was given at Menards and no response. I'm betting Criterion is out of business and we are all screwed on what we paid a pretty good price on. We've only had this 2 years next month, our old one lasted 20 years so please tell me why ur *** freezer lasted 2 years.

Criterion is the label Menards uses for their private label appliances. Most are imported from China with weak service and parts support. Stick with a name brand product that has a service and support network rather than saving a few dollars at the point of purchase and suffering a big loss in the long run.

There seems to be NO warranty on these appliances. When you call for parts you are stuck with paying for them again. No guarantees

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I bought your dishwasher but it cuts out and you have to wait for it to reset itself sometimes which can be 20 minutes to overnight. It is very loud. Homesmart will not work on it even though I bought a warranty through them. Also, the light to set the machine is so light I have to shut off all lights in the room to be able to read the settings.

That's what happens when you buy no name appliances imported from China. There is no parts or service network like the national name brand appliances offer. Sure you save a few bucks when you make the purchase but as you have found, not a good deal in the long run.

How old is it? If it's less than a year you have some hope of getting warranty service and if service isn't available possibly a refund.

If it's over a year old you may have a hard time finding someone to work on Criterion appliances and may find yourself buying a new refrigerator. This time you may want to choose a name brand product rather than a store brand.

Just bought this washer on 12-17-23. Had it six weeks and the spin cycle quit. Filed a claim with the warranty dept and the repair man came out. Said hes got a bunch of calls on these and this ALWAYS happens. Had to order part no less. So if it keeps doing it why not fix it in the first place. Only saving grace I may have is if the piece takes more than two weeks theyll replace the whole washer! Dont buy

If they will replace it, see if you can get credit towards a name brand washer. The reason they even brought up exchanging it is that parts can be hard to get for a store brand appliance. Once the warranty is done you may find yourself buying a new machine if something goes wrong with it.

Inform public of poor product

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I did not experience how horrible of a product this was until I was home over the Holidays. My parents purchased this Oven back in September or November of 2023.

MY mother who is an excellent cook and baker, I am not saying that because she is my mother, complained about it from day. I insisted they return it right away and buy another brand, but they are not that type of people. She complained it did not heat properly, her old recipes never seemed to work out. Store bough items didn't seem to cook right.

I was home for a short time over thanksgiving and that meal did not seem right, I though maybe she was getting forgetful and messing things up. Over I was able to spend more time at home. It became real clear that this stove top and oven were plain JUNK. I was able to convince my parents that we were returning this, or just scraping it and getting a different brand.

Menards did agree that we could return this, without a fight, and we purchased another brand from the same store. the other brand worked as expected, my mother was very happy right from the start. John Menard should be embarrassed and ashamed that his attempting to sell pieces of junk under his name that are made in China. At least the other stove options available in his store are at least assembled in America.

Slow to heat stove top. Inaccurate oven temps, or possibly the oven temp ranges widely.

It is fortunate that you were able to return it and buy a decent brand. You are 100% correct that Menards should be embarrassed for even selling these appliances. Not worth saving a few dollars if you are getting a poor quality product.

I haven't even had the washer for 2 months and it stopped spinning, moved it to try and unplug to try and reset and there was a bolt and broken washer underneath it. ??? I do laundry once a week and not full loads. I did my sheets this week and went down and it wasn't spun out. Tried and just makes noise but don't spin. It agitated and drains bit that is it. I have a dryer that I bought as a pair and will be returning that also, not even hooked up never used, I have gas and it's electric, hadn't gotten around to having it switched. And won't now. Garbage appliances, don't buy.

Criterion Appliances - Barely over a year old just past warranty & broke

It's barely over a year old, just past warranty & is now junk. First the panel on the 1st 6 numbers quit working.

Then 2 weeks later it starts popping & throwing sparks. That's 2 in less than 3 years.

All we really use it for is heating up & deforst. They don't even last a year & a half.

The handle cracked in the first week.

Was saving a few dollars on a store brand appliance really worth it? Shame on Menards for selling major appliances that don't have a parts or service network to stand behind them. It's one thing to sell a cheap drill that can't be repaired but to sell appliances that cost hundreds or thousands of dollars that can't be repaired is inexcusable.

YOU DON'T BUY APPLANCES FROM BIG BOX STORE IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG THEY DON'T STAND BEHIND THEM

My dad purchased a $2000 Criterion refrigerator from Menards 2 years ago. The first one he had for a month and the ice maker and water dispenser wouldn’t work.

We kept complaining and finally Menards exchanged for another new refrigerator. Maybe 6 months in we noticed the temperature was fluctuating but we kept having to reset the temperature, maybe at 18 months we had to purchase a water line because it kept leaking from underneath, so much so my dad hard wood flooring was ruined and had to be replaced. In the last month the freezer portion wasn’t working and we had to buy a fan. Now the freezer is working and the refrigerator portion isn’t.

It was extremely difficult to find a service person and now this service person is going to refund my dad $150 for services rendered and states they will no longer work on Criterion refrigerators because of all the problems. I’ve reached back out to Menards and they’re saying that because the refrigerator is 2 years old, it’s nothing they can do but even though the refrigerator has been giving problems all along.

They sent me an electric dryer with no cord and try to blame it on me saying i must of taken off of my cart. I did no such thing it never came up on my cart to buy separately.

They compensated me 30.00. Now i have to buy a cord assembly package and place it myself on my dryer.

I would not buy another thing from Menards. Their customer service SUCKS as do their appliances.

Menard's Criterion Wine Cooler cwc29ce1s

I buy a lot from Menard's. Everything from tools, and building materials to appliances.

My experience over the last fifteen-plus years is that you are generally safe on everything, but you must check reviews for appliances and power tools. I do not like their private-label faucets, tools, and appliances. I bought a window air conditioner and had it replaced twice within two years (Denali). I bought their Criterion Wine Cooler in 2019 and had to put a new relay in it in 2023.

Now, for months later, the relay has gone bad again. I have purchased their MasterForce power tools and think they are junk. In general, though, I find that their flooring, landscaping block, supplies, etc.

paints, and most everything they sell is great. Just my two cents.

Both Criterion and Master Force are Menards brands made to their specifications. You need to be careful with what you buy at Menards as more and more of what they sell is their store brand product. Stick with well known name brands who back their products if there is a problem.
