  • Bought a Criterion dryer from Menards with a 3-year warranty.
  • The dryer failed Jan 27; parts sent, no service yet, warranty company unresponsive.

Bought a Criterion dryer from Menards in 2024. I also bought the warranty for 3 years.

The dryer went out on January 27 of this year. I called the warranty company, who sent parts and gave me a 12-5 window. I asked for a courtesy call because I can have someone at my house in 15 minutes, but there was no call and the technician left. I still have parts as today is 2/28.

I believe I can't get anyone to service it yet. The warranty company is bad at responding. I went to Menards, and they said they can't do anything for me, so I'm back to the warranty company and still no response.

Menards takes no accountability for their own appliances, and you can't find anyone to fix them. Stay away from their brand appliances.

Disappointed

AI Highlights
  • -Landlord supplied Criterion fridge; it warmed while the freezer stayed icy.
  • -Milk spoils quickly; a control device was replaced.
Criterion Appliances - Disappointed
Criterion Appliances - Disappointed - Image 2

As a renter, my landlord provides appliances. Needed a new fridge, so the landlord bought Criterion.

For 2 months, it worked great. Then my milk spoiled and cans of biscuits exploded. The freezer is ice cold. The fridge is warm.

The landlord called Criterion, and they said the fridge is a no frost, so don't worry if the fridge seems warm sometimes. The landlord expressed this to me. Say WHAT! The company said that freezer items cannot block the airflow that allows the fridge to work.

(They are talking about the small vent areas in the bottom section of the freezer.) (Guess you can't use the freezer if you want a workable refrigerator) Lol. I took out everything from the freezer, and the fridge still had issues. A control device had stopped working. It was replaced.

Ok. The fridge was good for 5 weeks. Then the fridge turned warm again. A new gallon of milk spoiled within 30 hours of placing it in the fridge.

Criterion is a piece of crap. The fridge was produced in late 2023.

I purchased my own reversible freezer/fridge from Walmart for under 300. Sad to say Walmart's is better than this *** company.

Pros:
  • Nice looking
Cons:
  • Refrigerator useless

User's recommendation: Don't buy

Resolved: Dryer is not user friendly.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Dec 18, 2025

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with full refund. Dryer was too complicated for use.

When ordering on line be weary, or if products are not on display. The operation of the product, especially touch pad,may not be what you want to use.

Original review Dec 03, 2025

Control panel too complicated. Offer a website with video at least.

Would offer the consumer a beginner/expert class in the operation.

Thank you.

User's recommendation: Look for a more simplistic control panel for operation

That's what you get for buying products like appliances online without even looking at them. Buying low priced common items online is ok but not for pricier things like appliances.

Guest

Didn't you look at it in the store before you made the purchase? If the panel is so confusing why didn't you purchase a model with fewer options?

I install for landlords that do indeed look at the price but, some do not ask for my advise. Tenants need a simple dashboard.

my frig went out in less than 3 yrs and out of warranty and the phone call gained NOTHING and they said it was not repairable. I also have a washer same age that the cold water keeps going after the load is finished.

It will continue to completely fill the tub again if not caught in time. It is periodic and can't figure out what causes it.

Not to mention the softener area has rusted and I sanded and repainted it because it looked so bad. Seems to me products are cheaply made.

Menards sells expensive fridges that don't last but a couple years

  • Recently it stopped cooling after about two years and cost over $1800.
Criterion Appliances - Menards sells expensive fridges that don't last but a couple years

Bought one of menards higher end priced criterion fridges alittle over two years ago. Loved the large spaces inside and how quietly it ran.

But then a couple days ago noticed things like sodas and such didn't seem as cold. Well, darn thing went up on me.

Luckily I was home and not on the road and managed to safe most stuff. Sucks damn thing only lasted alittle over 2 years after paying over $1800.00 for it.

User's recommendation: Not to buy criterion fridges. Should definitely last longer than it did.

Time to buy a new refrigerator. It's out of warranty and you will have a hard time finding anyone to come look at it as they can't get parts for a refrigerator made in China. This time buy a name brand refrigerator with readily available parts.

AGREE!!.As a home economist with an extensive household equipment background from Iowa State University, I would NEVER recommend this dishwasher. The moisture build up after the dish load has finished is unbelievable.

I had to leave the door wide open overnight in an attempt to dry the inside of the dishwasher and it still had moisture present in the morning. The moisture present actually "pooled" on the door of the dishwasher. That is considerable moisture. The cleaning of dishes also needs improvement.

Plan on prewashing the dish load prior to loading the dishes. For anyone with decreased vision, the operational panel is extremely difficult to read.

I was very disappointed with the overall functioning of the unit. I know Criterion is attempting to make a dishwasher that is more affordable for the consumer, but my opinion is the consumer would rather pay more and have good performance.

Criterion Appliances - I've had this gas stove for 8 months and the paint started...

Okay this oven that I bought 8 months ago the paint is peeling inside the oven it's bubbling up and now it's peeling off. I called the people who make the product the oven and they were pretty reasonable they only problem is I don't drive so Menards wanted to charge me.

$189 and that's just to put it on my porch another 30 to hook it up. I only paid $699 for the stove which is pretty reasonable I'm returning it and I am afraid to get another one but I did look at the reviews and haven't seen anything in the reviews about problems in the oven.

Don't get another Criterion. Exchange it for a name brand stove.

You are fortunate to have this problem under warranty and are able to take it back.

Look at all the complaints from people that can't get parts or service for Criterion products. You may may have to pay a little more but at least you'll have a product that lasts more than a few months.

Why not blame Menards? Criterion is their store brand product made to their specifications. See if you can return it and apply your purchase price towards a name brand product.

Yes, Menards is their store brand! This is their responsibility. Why it is best to buy more reputable products.

If it's less than a year old it should still be under warranty. Contact the store and let them know you can't get it serviced and ask to return it.

If they will accept it back they will only give you store credit if it is over 90 days old. Use the credit to purchase a name brand appliance that has a parts network to support their appliances.

Freezer died in 7 mos. Piece of JUNK!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • The 17 cu ft Criterion freezer stopped cooling while running.
  • Lost meat to thaw; beef and moose; service slow; replaced with a local name-brand.

Needed a larger freezer and didnt have room for a chest that size so I took a gamble on the 17 cu ft criterion. Looked decent but boy was I dead wrong.

Got a call at work and was told by my wife that the freezer had stopped working and everything thawed out. No idea how long it had been but lost about 15lbs of beef, hundreds of lbs of moose meat and a lot of other frozen items. No idea why it wouldnt cool, was still running but it sounded like an air compressor. Dont bother with customer service either.

Called the number and was likely outsourced to India and was told to send and email with description and image of the receipt.

Over a week and no reply. Already junked the piece of *** and bought a name brand from a local store like I should have done in the first place!!!

User's recommendation: Just don’t buy these

Shouldn't have junked it. In many cases it looks like Menards will take them back and give you store credit if you can't get them fixed under warranty.
